Pierce Purcell Shield Event: Foresomes x 5 Pairs -Individual Handicap not less than 12 & not less than 27 for pair.(Previous year handicaps apply) 2011 Team Manager: Michael Curran Qualifying Round: May 14 at Blessington Lakes 2010 Team Manage: Michael Curran May 23: In the Pierce Purcell Shield competition,
yesterday Tulfarris came out in second place
from 15 different Golf Clubs in the Regional Qualifiers played over the
difficult terrain at Roundwood Golf Club. This was
achieved through the great work of Team Manager, Mick Curran in preparing the
panel for the competition over the past number of weeks. This placing brought
us back this morning to Roundwood for the Regional
semi-final against Killerig Golf Club. The five
pairings, playing foursomes golf, lost narrowly with the final pairings going
all the way down the 19th - the narrowest of margins. I have just heard that Killerig went on this afternoon to win the final bringing
them through to the closing stages of the Leinster
Competition. Well done and thank you to Team
Manager, Mick Curran and to the players - Keith Turner, Alan Satelle, James McCarron, Les Broderick, David Reid, John
Devereux, Martin Lenihan, Damien Geoghegan, Ger Ryder, Charlie McGee (and myself). 2009 Team Manager: Noel Reilly May 16th: Tulfarris battled it out with host Club Craddockstown and 14 other Clubs in the Regional
Qualifier for the Pierce Purcell Shield. In atrocious weather conditions -
which forced the Irish Open to postpone their play - the Tulfarris
team qualified for the semi-finals which were played this morning (Sunday).
The results of the qualifiers which involved the four best gross scores
from each team of five foursome pairs were as follows: 1st:
Millicent
369 2nd: Kilcock 370 3rd: Tulfarris 371 4th: Curragh
373 In the first semi-final Millicent
beat Curragh and in
the other one Tulfarris beat Kilcock
- again in wet and windy condidtions this morning. Tulfarris defeated Millicent in the afternoons final.
They are now just 4 games short of the All-Ireland. June 13th: Tulfarris
were beaten last evening 3/2 by Moate at The
Heath in the Leinster quarter-final of the Pierce
Purcell competition. The 5 pairs from Tulfarris
were James McCarron/John Devereux, Stephen McEntee/Alan
Britton, Gareth Nolan/Frank Lewis, Keith Turner/Les Broderick and John
Horan/Mark Reilly. They were greatly assisted by caddies Brendan Daly,
Tom O'Shea, Jim Byrne, Billy Reilly and Jerry Lambe.
Comiserations (and thanks) to them and to all those
members who turned out to support them. Finally congratulations to Team
Manager Noel Reilly and his Assistant Jim Byrne in getting the club to this
advanced stage in the competition. |
